Unit 1 How can we become good learners ? (Section B 2a--2e)

Period 4:Reading

I. The analysis of teaching material

The topic of this unit is about learning methods and learning habits. And the function is to use polite requests to ask for permission. Students need to learn how to make polite requests when you want to ask something politely . What they will learn in this lesson is pretty practical. It’s a good to learn English by doing. This is the fourth lesson of Unit 1, so the main task of Period 4 for students is to improve the skills of reading.

II. The analysis of learning condition

Most students from the rural school have an average English level, and they are also not good at reading .So they will be encouraged to practice more in reading skills and reading speed.The students won’t be very strange for the topic of this unit. Meanwhile this article is practical and is closed to the real life. Thus, students will be more easily to learn the new knowledge.

III. Teaching objectives

According to the curriculum standard of English, the teacher sets the following objectives.

A. Knowledge objectives:

1.Words:born,ability,create,brain,active,attention,connect,overnight,review, knowledge, lifelong, wisely

2.Phrases: repeat out loud, Connect ……with…get bored,be stressed outpay attention to,depend onthe ability to do sth ,be born with ,keep (on) doing sth

3.Sentences:Everyone is born with the ability to learn.

Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it.  Good learners will keep practicing what they have learned…

They also look for ways to review what they have learned.

B. Ability objectives:

1. Students can master the reading skills of fast reading and careful reading.

C. Moral objectives:

Find the suitable way to get over your difficulties in learning.

IV. Key points & difficulties

A. Key points:

1.Students can pronounce the new words and phrases correctly. Meanwhile, they can know how to use them.

B.Difficulties:

1.Students can finish the reading tasks by using the reading skills of fast reading and careful reading.

V. Teaching method & aids

A. Teaching methods

1. Task-based Language Teaching Method (Through activities, students will finish the tasks.)

2. Cooperative Teaching Method (In this way, students can finish tasks and make their friendship deeply.)

3. Communicative Approach (Through the pair work, students will be encouraged to communicate with the teacher and their partners.)

PurposeThis step is based on Communicative Method.Students can focus on their thoughts in the class. They can get ready for class. Also, it can focus students’ attention.

Step 2 Leading- in

1).How do you learn English well?

2) Do you have any learning habits?

3).ls the habit good or bad?why?

PurposeThis step is based on Communicative Method.Students can focus their attention and have a basic understanding about what we will learn next.

Step 3 Pre-reading

1.Work on 2a:what good learning habits can you think of?(pair work)

PurposeThis step is based on Communicative Method.This .After discussing it, it can help students better understand the main meaning of the following articles.

Step 3 While-reading

Fast reading: a:work on 2b. (Which four habits of successful lead are mentioned?)

b:work on 2c. (Find the reasons why they agree and why they disagree.)

Careful reading: a:decide the class into 4 groups and every group have the task about 1 paragraph. And the choose some students to teach the key language points.

b. Work on 2c. (read the passage again and answer the questions.)

c. Work on 2d. (look up the dictionary and then make sentences.)

d.key sentences.

PurposeThis step is based on Task-based Language Teaching Method.This is a reading part, students study this part from two aspects: fast reading and careful reading.. (a:)fast reading: In this part, students read the passage quickly by following 2b and 2c. b:Careful-reading:In this part, students do a careful-reading, after that, students answer these questions,then finish 2c.During the reading, pay much attention to new language points. It can not only help students learn the article step by step and learn better,but also can develop their ability of reading.

Step 4 Post-reading

Discussion: what learning habits do you think are useful?Discuss with your group and share your ideas with the class.

PurposeThis step is based on Communicative Approach. By discussing the useful learning methods.. It can help students know the importance of good learning habits.

Step 6 Summary

Ask students to make a conclusion about what we learned in this lesson

PurposeThis step is based on the Communicative Approach. After the learning has done, students need to recall the key points, and try to remember them in the class.

Step 7 Homework

1.Review the passage with your partner after class.

1.2.Finish you exercise book.

PurposeThis step is based on the Task-based Language Teaching Method. Students need to apply what they have learned by retelling the passage. It’s necessary to do exercises to check if students understand the language points in the class.
