Period 4: Writing
Ⅰ. The analysis of teaching material.
The fourth class of unit5 is writing and revision. It’s main content is to learn the words about articles and making materials and the usage of be made of, and talk about the making materials and producing areas of daily necessities with a passive voice in their writing. After the class, the students can write a short passage to introduce their family by using sentence patterns.
Ⅱ. The analysis of learning Condition
1. The students are from a junior middle school in the countryside. They are in Grade 9. Most of the students are in the medium level of English and they are not good at writing. In large class teaching, students have few opportunities for language practice, with different degrees; At the same time, some ninth grade students are shy to open their mouth and try to create as many opportunities for them to practice their language through various cooperative learning activities.
2. Students have learned some words about past members which lays the foundation for this lesson, but the new words and sentence patterns such as I used to be...may be a little difficult for students. Since the topic of this unit is closely related to students daily life and students are interest in learning, this lesson will not be difficult for students. In class, the teacher will use a variety of teaching methods to help students to learn the words and sentences of what you used to be like.
Ⅲ. Teaching Objectives:
According to the key points and difficult points in this unit, combining with the learning situation of students in this class, and referring to the New Curriculum Standard of English, the teacher sets the following objectives.
A. Knowledge objectives:
1) Students can say and recognize the following words:
international, competitor, its, form, clay, balloon, scissors, lively, fairy, heat, polish, complete
2)Students can review the different uses of the passive voice.
A. Ability objectives:
1) Students can describe the production materials of some common daily necessities in English and describe the production process of some familiar.
2) Students can use the grammar knowledge and language materials learned in this unit to write a small composition on a topic they are familiar with
C. Emotional objectives:
Through reading this essay, students can understand the development status of China in modern times and realize that our great China is rising rapidly. From relying on imported foreign industrial products to manufacturing in China, China has joined the ranks of industrial powers.

A. Teaching methods
1. Task-based Language Teaching Approach (Teachers assign different tasks to students in different stages of listening and ask students to practice with questions, which will make it easier for students to learn words and sentence patterns.)

Step 1 Revision
Review the main phrases and sentences.
Step 2 Pr-writing
Ask some Ss to describe how to make a Chinese clay piece.
? First, the pieces are carefully shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry.
? Second, after drying, they are fired at a very high heat.
? At last, they are polished and painted.
【Purpose】This step is based on the Communicative Approach.Students by watching the picture to get the students’ attention. Students can make full preparation for the following study.
Step 3 Discussion
Talk about some special things that your city is famous for.
e.g.
A: What’s your city famous for?
B: Our city is famous for making lanterns.
A: Really! What are they made of?
B: They’re made of bamboo, silk or paper.
A: What they can do?
B: They were first used for lighting in the old days. Today, they are used at festivals and other celebrations.
A: Why are they special?
B: Chinese people love lanterns very much because they’re symbols of good luck and family reunion.
【Purpose】This step is based on the Communicative Approach and Task-based Language Teaching Approach. Through presenting the strictures and sentences with pictures, students can learn the new words and sentences in an interesting way.
Step 4 While-Writing
1. Work on 3a.
What are some special things that your town/ city is famous for? These can be food, artwork or any other products. Discuss them with a partner and take notes.
2. Work on 3b.
Write a paragraph about the product. Use your notes in 3a.

Lanterns have been around for about 1800 years. They were first used for lighting in the old days. Today, they are used at festivals and other celebrations. Chinese people love lanterns very much because they’re symbols of good luck and family reunion.
From Spring Festival to Lantern Festival, lanterns are hung up everywhere. Lanterns were usually made of bamboo and paper in the old days. Now they are made of many kinds of materials, such as steel, silk, cloth, plastic and so on. They are made all round China. Lanterns are made in the shape of different animals, vegetables, fruits and many other things.
【Purpose】This step is based on the Task-based Language Teaching Approach. By writing, students will learn how to grasp key words while listening. And by doing more practice, students can further master the words and sentence patterns of this lesson.
